The purpose of the linear barcode component is to create Code 128 barcodes. Code 128 has a very high-density barcode symbology and is good for displaying numeric and alphanumeric data. The data displayed can be supplied when the label template is created or can be populated by eLab when the label is printed.

The options of the linear barcode component are:
- Database field. Select this option when the barcode data is to be populated by eLab at the time of printing . From the Name box select the name of the field from the database that represents the data you want and the number of characters that you want to display.
- Free Text. Select this option when you want to manually supply the data that the barcode will display. Enter the data in the Text box.
- X-expansion factor. The value of this option determines what multiplication of the original width the barcode will be displayed at, the default is 2.
- Symbol Height. This value sets the height of the lines of the barcode in centimetres.
- Human Readable. This setting determines whether a human readable description will be displayed under the barcode.
